The Art of Seeing & Speaking: Yoga Observation Skills

  • Merritt Clubs Canton 3401 Boston Street Baltimore United States (map)

SEE AND CONNECT WITH YOUR STUDENTS.

Being able to teach to what is happening in the class, rather than being on auto-pilot, is a critical skill as a yoga teacher. Safety is the top priority of your class and it is essential to see your students so they feel secure and attended to.

SPEAK FROM YOUR CENTER WITH CLARITY AND PURPOSE.

When you are present to what is happening in the room and in your students bodies (and facial expressions!), your cues effectively help students grow their practice and improve their alignment. Your students will get huge results from your keen observation cues and in turn will keep students returning again and again for your classes.  But often we get too caught up thinking about how to articulate our instructions that we don't actually see if our students are following what we're saying!

IN THIS WORKSHOP, YOU WILL DISCOVER:

  • What to observe in a yoga class and how to observe

  • How to cue to exactly what you are observing in the room

  • A refined method of cueing including Relational Cueing

  • Common observation pitfalls

Bring a yoga mat, water bottle, notebook and pen. There will be some light yoga movement for demonstration of workshop content, but no formal yoga practice. Workshop is largely interactive lecture and discussion.

This workshop is designed for yoga teachers and yoga teachers in training who are currently teaching and want to refine their skills, or who are not currently teaching and want a tune-up or inspiration to start teaching classes.
