Yoga Poses in Sanskrit: Part I

Sanskrit is the language of yoga.

In this online workshop, we explore the meaning and correct pronunciation of several yoga poses in their native Sanskrit names. By learning about Sanskrit, an ancient language from the East, you will become a more confident and informed yoga practitioner. This unique online workshop offers you the opportunity to deepen your yoga practice by understanding the meaning and origination of yoga pose names. Travel back to the roots of your yoga practice so that you can freely expand your practice today.

This workshops gives you the tools to not just learn the Sanskrit pose names in the moment, but to also remember them long after this course is complete. Bring your questions and curiosities.

WORKSHOP BREAKDOWN:

  • Origin and Introduction to Sanskrit

  • Pronunciation of Sanskrit sounds

  • Standing Poses: breakdown of the meaning and pronunciation in Sanskrit

  • Seated Poses: breakdown of the meaning and pronunciation in Sanskrit

  • Half way through: Brief movement-based yoga taught fully in Sanskrit along with a 10 minute break to reset

  • Inversions & Arm Balance Poses: breakdown of the meaning and pronunciation in Sanskrit

  • Sun Salutation Poses: breakdown of the meaning and pronunciation in Sanskrit
